Over the years, people have asked me what the secret is to great-looking skin, so I decided that as part of “My Latest Obsession,” I would share some of my skincare secrets with you. While I firmly believe that good genes and living a fairly “clean” life (drinking lots of water, getting enough sleep, not smoking, etc) have a lot to do with how our skin looks--and ages--a kick-ass regimen that includes lots of sunscreen is also essential. We all know how important it is to protect our skin from the sun’s dangerous rays, not only during the summer, but year-round as well. Here are two of my favorite products for both year-round use and when it's time to pack up and head to the beach.
My Latest Obsession: MDSolarSciences
MDSolarSciences Mineral Tinted Crème Broad Spectrum SPF 30 UVA-UVB Sunscreen
This product is a great way to start or finish your beauty routine no matter what the season as it can be used as both a base under makeup or as a finishing touch after you're done putting your makeup on. I like to use it last, as it leaves a smooth, even finish and helps my makeup last longer. I recommend applying it with a foundation brush; it goes on smoothly and feels nice and light on the skin. That’s a plus in the summer if you’re looking to go lighter on the amount of liquid makeup you normally use. MDSolarSciences' website says that this product is water-resistant for up to 80 minutes, and safe for all skin types.
MDSolarSciences Mineral Crème Broad Spectrum SPF 50 UVA-UVB Sunscreen
This is a lightweight, water-resistant cream that goes on smoothly and leaves a powdery finish on the skin with no greasy “after-feel” that you sometimes get with other sunscreen products. It is truly heaven in a tube! According to the company's website, this formula is also safe for all skin types. While MDSolarSciences claims the product is safe for ages six months and up, trust me, you’re not going to want to share this one with the kids!
MDSolarSciences products combat both UVA and UVB rays, and the company boasts doctor-developed products and "great skin through science, innovation and education." The company offers free samples with every purchase, and during Fourth of July sales this season, I scooped up some deals that would rival any Black Friday offers I've ever seen. Be sure to visit www.mdsolarsciences.com to sign up for their newsletter so you won't miss out on promotions offered throughout the year. There's also a helpful blog on their site called “S.H.E.: Skin Health Exchange,” with informative posts on such topics as Vitamin D, retinol, and more. You can also “Ask an Expert” by sending in a question via e-mail.
